Strawberry Cheesecake Wontons



A couple of weeks ago I purchased a package of Wonton Wrappers at the grocery store. They were conveniently located in the refrigerator section right next to where I was picking up some cheese and they screamed “Whitney,  make some Wontons!”  … so I did, of course. When wontons yell, you must listen 😉

Dessert Wontons



Instead of going traditional with my first “wonton making experience” I decided to go dessert. I had 30 lbs of cream cheese left from that fateful trip to Costco I posted about last week…. ok, maybe I’m exaggerating a little bit, it may have been closer to 3 lbs, yet still a ton of cream cheese, so I decided to make Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Wontons.

Crisp on the outside, sweet and chocolatey on the inside, a dessert that can’t be beat!

Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Wontons Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. cream cheese
  • ½ cup strawberries (sliced, stems removed)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips
  • 3 dozen wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg

Preheat the oven to 375°.

Blend cream cheese, strawberries and sugar together.

Hand mix in the chocolate chips.

Place 1 tbsp. of the cheesecake mixture in the middle of each wonton wrapper.

Brush water around the edges of the wonton wrapper.

Pinch each of the four corners together in the middle to form the cool wonton shape.

You can also simply fold the wonton in half diagonally to form a triangle and crimp the edges together with a fork.  But really, these look like much more fun, right?

How to make wontons

Whisk the egg in a small bowl with 1 tsp. of water and brush each wonton on all sides with the egg wash.

Cheesecake Wontons

Place on a baking sheet and into the oven for 8 minutes. I made 5 different batches, cooking 2-4 wontons at a time to get the exact temperature and baking time correct.

At 375° for 10 minutes the cheesecake began to ooze out of the wontons, at 8 minutes they were perfectly crisp with all of the delicious cheesecake filling in tact.

Since everyones oven is a little different, I recommend trying a sample batch of 2-4 wontons to make sure that time and temp works for you before baking all 3 dozen of them!
