Gluten Free Mason Jar Apple Crumble

There’s really nothing better than a super delicious dessert… well unless that super delicious dessert also comes in a super cute little package! Enter: Mason Jars!

This summer I made delicious little Raspberry Lemon Desserts in these jars, so I decided that it was time for a fall/winter dessert that utilizes the cuteness of mini mason jars!

I wanted to go for a gluten-free dessert, so that I could make it at home for Christmas (my brother has celiac disease, so our Christmas dinners are now totally gluten free!)

I went for my go-to gluten free flour that I’ve been using on the blog for almost two years now, Premium Gold!

Premium Gold Gluten Free Flour is a fantastic one-to-one substitute for traditional flour, meaning you can use it as a straight substitution for traditional flour in any recipe! It’s a delicious combination of 6 gluten-free flours & flaxseed, meaning you only need one bag of gluten-free flour in the pantry instead of 6!

My entire family, including my brother and his girlfriend, swear by this flour and we use it in everything for the holidays from cornbread to stuffing to sausage balls to sweet potato brownies (yum!)

In this recipe I used the flour in the crumble on top of the apples, it turned out fantastic and I literally could not stop eating these little jars of goodness!

Gluten Free Apple Crumble Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apples (peeled, cored & diced) – app. 4 medium apples
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup + 1 cup brown sugar (divided)
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 + ½ tsp ground cinnamon (divided)
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 6 tbsp Premium Gold Gluten Free Flour
  • 3 tbsp butter

Preheat the oven to 375°.

In a large bowl, combine the apples, sugar, ¼ cup brown sugar, cornstarch, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice.

Divide this mixture into 8 small mason jars (I used 4 oz – quarter pint jars).

Well technically I used some half pint and some quarter pint (as seen below) to see which ones I liked better, and I’d definitely go with the quarter pint  🙂

Combine the gluten free flour, 1 cup brown sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon in a small bowl. Add the butter and mix into a course crumble.

Sprinkle the mixture over the apple filling.

One thing I learned while making these is that since the apples cook down during the baking process, you want to squeeze them down in the jar as tightly as possible before topping with the crumble, so that when they come out of the oven they’re still full to the top 🙂

Place the mason jars on a baking sheet and into the oven.

Bake covered with foil 20-25 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
