One very fond memory I have of growing up in Oklahoma during the fall was the party mix my Dad used to make. He would make it on the weekends to eat while watching football games.
It slow baked in the oven and the house smelled amazing, he would lay it out to cool and I would sneak my teeny little hands up on the counter to grab a bite 😉
I decided to re-create this snack mix, the gluten free way, with a little taco seasoned twist!
I used Nature’s Path Envirokidz Gorilla Munch as the base for my mix. It’s a delicious cereal that’s gluten free and filled with whole grains. This recipe incorporates an entire box of the cereal which packs in 90 grams of whole grains!
Another fun fact about the Envirokidz cereal line is that 1% of sales go to help the planet. The Gorilla Munch cereal featured in this recipe donates 1% of sales to The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to help with the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitats in Africa.
Healthy, delicious food that also helps save animals, that’s why I love Nature’s Path!
- 6 cups Nature’s Path Envirokidz Gorilla Munch Cereal
- 2 cups Gluten Free Pretzels
- 3 cups popcorn (popped)
- 1 cup peanuts
- 1 cup cashews
- ¼ cup butter (melted)
- ¼ cup hot sauce*
- 2 tbsp taco seasoning (click link for homemade recipe)*
*For a milder party mix, use only 2 tbsp hot sauce and 1 tbsp taco seasoning.
Preheat the oven to 325°.
In a large roasting pan, stir the cereal, pretzels, popcorn and nuts together.
In a small bowl, whisk the melted butter, hot sauce and taco seasoning together.
Pour the mixture over the party mix and toss to coat.
I tried using tongs at first, but ended up using my hands to toss everything together to make sure it was coated evenly.
Go ahead, get in there and get your hands dirty 😉
Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
Remove from the oven and you have a crispy, crunchy, spicy, totally addictive snack!
The delicious taste of tacos in a party mix, which as the name suggests, is perfect for parties!
This recipe would also make a delicious addition to kids lunchboxes. Separate it into small plastic bags for an easy, grab-and-go snack!
