These Honey Mustard Buffalo Meatballs are sweet, hot & tangy! They’re perfect as a game day or party appetizer, or served on rolls as meatball subs!
The Superbowl is just 9 days away, time to get that game day menu ready, and I have just the meatball recipe to WOW your friends at this years party!
Last weekend I tested out these buffalo meatballs on my friends that came over to watch the NFL Playoffs, and needless to say they was a huge hit, like “I’m glad I grabbed one before they were gone in 60 seconds” type of hit!
Now, if you’re thinking that the combination of buffalo sauce and honey mustard is just plain crazy, then I’m about to blow your mind with just how delicious it is!
When we’re not hosting our friends to watch football at the house, we’re usually at Bub’s, a local sports bar in San Diego that hosts Steelers fans (AKA my boyfriend!) and serves up some of the best wings in the city with a variety of sauces, including their “Archie Sauce”.
And if you guessed that Archie Sauce was a combination of honey mustard dressing and buffalo sauce, well then you’d be right! 😉
Since this weekend was a big game for my boyfriends Steelers (womp womp 🙁 ) I wanted to recreate the Archie Sauce at home, but instead of tossing it with wings, I decided to toss it with his favorite game day appetizer, meatballs!
The base of the meatball is a delicious combination of chicken and pork. I used this same combination of meats this summer to make these Caribbean Jerk Chicken & Pork Meatballs, yum!
I added chili powder and paprika to season the meatballs, then cooked them in the delicious homemade “Archie Sauce” to make the most scrumptious Honey Mustard Buffalo Meatballs ever!
Ready, set, TOUCHDOWN!
- 2 tbsp olive oil (divided)
- 1 cup diced onions
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 lb ground pork
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buffalo sauce
- 1 cup honey mustard dressing
Add 1 tbsp olive oil to a large skillet, or dutch oven, over medium high heat, add the onions and cook 3-5 minutes, add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
Remove from the heat and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken and ground pork with the cooked onions and garlic. Add the breadcrumbs, chili powder, paprika and eggs. Combine well without over mixing.
Form into golf ball sized meatballs. Add the remaining tbsp olive oil to the large skillet in which the onions were cooked. Place the skillet on the stove over medium high heat.
Add the meatballs and brown on each side for 1-2 minutes.
Pour the buffalo sauce and honey mustard dressing over the meatballs.
Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes.
Alternatively, you can slow cook the meatballs. After they’re seared, transfer the meatballs to a slow cooker, then pour the buffalo sauce and honey mustard into the slow cooker. Cook on high for 2 hours, or on low for 5-6 hours.
Once the meatballs are cooked, you can turn the slow cooker to warm and you’ll have delicious buffalo chicken meatballs hot & ready whenever your party guests arrive!
Be sure to serve the meatballs with a ladle so you can pour all of that delicious sauce over them!
