These holiday ornaments are so simple to make, they are a great way to show your team spirit at the holidays and get a little crafty while you’re at it!

Because of the simplicity (and lack of messy products), these are perfect to make with kids of any age.  They will love having their own special ornament to put on the tree while showing off their favorite team colors!

I made two different ornaments for my two favorite teams, the Oklahoma Sooners and the OKC Thunder!

2. For the pom-pom ball ornament, I layered the two different colors top/middle/bottom.

For the glass gems and basketballs, I began with one color, added the basketball beads in the middle, then added the other color on top.

#10 Attend a Red Sox Game at Fenway Park

While the Fenway Frank may not have won over my taste buds, the city of Boston, their sports and their people stole a piece of my heart! I have so much love for the city of Boston and look forward to visiting again soon!

Being a devoted sports girl, there were several items on my summer bucket list related to visiting stadiums and watching sporting events from basketball to baseball. I was able to check one off my list while in Boston with a visit to Fenway Park.

We started the Fenway experience at the Bleacher Bar.  Given its name because it is literally below the Fenway Park Bleachers.

If you’re ambitious (like 8 hours pre-game ambitious) you can even get a seat in the bar and watch the entire game with free front row seats.

Yes, this shot was actually taken inside of the bar. My other favorite part of Bleacher Bar. They have windows in the bathroom that face in this direction so you never have to miss a minute of action.  Yes, Boston people definitely take their sports seriously (one of my favorite things about them!)

Pictured above is the awesome gentleman that made my Fenway Park experience happen, my friend Greg. Thanks Mr Pickle! Inside joke, has something to do with one awesome pickle shirt!

Post Bleacher Bar we headed over to Island Creek Oyster Bar.

Yes, most people eat hot dogs pre-game.  This crew eats oysters!

They were talking up these oysters for a week on Martha’s Vineyard, like constantly obsessing over Island Creek Oysters.

Now, I would not consider myself an oyster connoisseur by any means, but I have had my fair share of oysters from coast-to-coast and I’m not going to lie, these are the best I’ve ever had.

Following a dozen oysters and couple apps, we headed over to the game. Luckily it was a night game because Boston was getting pretty hot and sticky during the days!  This also made for the most amazing sunset over the park.

Unfortunately the Sox aren’t looking so great this year and they lost to the Yankees, but we still had a great time!

I really don’t understand why people hate Boston fans, they’re awesome, just a little passionate with a side of incredible blunt-ness!

Yankee Dog vs Fenway Frank

As a chef, foodie, food blogger extraordinaire, culinary creator, girl who loves to eat, whatever you want to call me, I almost hate to admit that one of my favorite foods is yes, the hot dog!

There’s something about a delicious, juicy grilled dog nestled in a nicely toasted, warm bun with a slight drizzle of ketchup that makes my mouth water every time!

While in New York I was lucky enough to attend a game at the beautiful new Yankee stadium!

First stop: obvi, hot dog and beer!

This is me, taking my “ketchup-placing-strategy” very seriously!

And now the ultimate moment has descended upon us. The time for Yankee Dog consumption.

Um ya people, that was delicious. I don’t think I even made it away from the condiment counter before the whole thing was gone and I was back in line for numero dos!

A little background on my Yankee Dog.  While downstairs at the stadium there are Nathan’s hot dogs, upstairs there are Hebrew National.  I’m telling you all, that’s the good stuff! Something about that “kosher-ness” that really makes for a delicious dog!

Just in case you’re not a dog lover like myself, never fear, Yankee Stadium has their own sushi.

Yup, they’re high-class in New York.  I mean you can’t expect Jay Z to eat a hot dog, can you?  Are you now picturing Jay Z grilling up a dog for Beyonce, because I definitely am!

But never fear Zooey Deschanel, you and the other Celiac peeps can eat at Yankee Stadium too!

All in all, a beautiful evening at the ballpark!

Two weeks later, the challenge was on. It was time for me to cross #10 off my bucket list and attend a Red Sox game at Fenway Park.

While checking this item off, I felt another blog post coming to me, the show down between the Yankee Dog and the Fenway Frank. New York vs. Boston. Yankees vs. Red Sox. Who would win in the best darn dog contest?

After eating dinner at two different restaurants prior to arrival at the game, I still felt it was my duty to take down a dog and complete the challenge. So I maneuvered my way around the most confusing sports stadium in America to find my perfect Fenway Frank.  One frank purchased, a squirt or ketchup and I was ready to go.

Chomp, chomp, chomp.

And the winner is…

The Yankee Dog, by a mile!  No offense Boston, your city won my heart, but your Fenway Frank was a disappointment!

Barely warm, no juiciness to be found and the flavor just wasn’t there!  Must be that “all beef Kosher-ness” that really puts the Yankee Dog over the top!

The battle is not over, I still must try dogs at each and every baseball stadium in America before I can name a true winner. But for now, the Yankee Dog has my heart!

Russell Westbrook Birthday Cake

June is an eventful month around the Bond household with the birthdays of my Mom, Dad, Brother, Aunt and Brothers girlfriend, as well as Fathers Day and my parent’s wedding anniversary (34 years today!)

After completing a successful gluten-free birthday cake for my brother, it made sense to make the cake again for his girlfriends birthday. But being the girl who has to make everything a little bit different I decided to turn his delicious Chocolate Gluten-Free Cake into a work of OKC Thunder basketball art. Enter, the Russell Westbrook Birthday Cake.

Russell has been talked about a lot in the playoffs for his interesting press conference attire. It started with the lense-less red glasses, which led to an article on the front page of The Wall Street Journal “Fashion Plates of the NBA Make Specs of Themselves: At Finals, Hoops Stars Also Compete Over Stylish Eyeglasses; No Lenses Needed”. Then came the Lacoste fishing shirt which sent sales for the popular clothing brand through the roof when everyone in Oklahoma decided to emulate the look. And I mean everyone!

I met this amazing older couple during the Western Conference Playoffs and they told me they were “trending on Twitter”, the look had definitely caught on!

My first idea was to just add the red glasses onto the cake, then I decided I had to add the shirt as well!

Russell Westbrook Cake Ingredients

After the cake is baked and cooled use a piping bag with the cream cheese frosting to make the shirt design.

Next, add the chocolate frosting to a separate bag and pipe onto the remaining parts of the cake not covered by the cream cheese frosting.

Next, add about 6-8 gummy worms to the shirt.

Now, to make the glasses place a toothpick between each end of a Twizzler, slide through until the two ends meet and the toothpick no longer shows.  Repeat this step to form the two lenses.  Next place another Twizzler on top and attach with the trimmed off ends of 2 toothpicks. Place the glasses gently on top of the cake and voila! The Russell Westbrook cake is complete!

Everyone, including the birthday girl, loved the cake! Just another fun way to celebrate OKC making it to the NBA Finals! Game 3 tonight, Thunder Up!!!

#19 Fly on a Private Jet

This was one of those items on the Summer Bucket List that’s been on the life bucket list for years now. It took a random meeting with a pilot in Los Angeles that lived in Oklahoma to finally make it happen.  That pilot, my friend Chad, not only took me on the jet, he also took me to a OKC Thunder playoff game in San Antonio. Needless to say he is on the top of my “favorite people” list right now!

Boarding the plane, Texas bound!

I love the little GPS video tracker so we knew where we were in the air at all times!

Gotta sport my “Westbrook glasses” on the way to Thunder Up!

Landed in San Antonio after a perfect flight with my favorite pilot!

We headed down to the Riverwalk for a margarita, then over to the game!

Definitely a day I will never forget and will always be grateful to Chad for turning this bucket list item into a reality!

Songs about Beards, Thunder Basketball and Woodward, OK

It only took 30 seconds of watching their video for me to decide I HAD to meet these guys.  These guys I refer to are the brothers who created the incredibly catchy song about my favorite NBA team and the most famous beard in the nation, “Beard Like Harden“!

For my first interview of the Summer Adventure I hopped in my Moms jeep the morning after OKC Thunder vs. LA Lakers Game 5 and headed to Woodward, Oklahoma.

In the 18 years I lived in Oklahoma I never made the three hour drive down country roads to the town of Woodward, so today I was in for a treat. A new adventure AND an interview with the artists that brought me my new favorite song!

Adventure it was. This is not like a “hop on one highway and be there in 3 hours” kinda drive, it’s more like a “blink and you’ve missed the next road that you were supposed to turn on because they all have 15 signs and they all look the same” kinda drive!

Yes I realize it’s ironic that I can maneuver around Los Angeles with the worst traffic in America but finding my way through the Oklahoma countryside was nearly impossible!

Although the roads were a little difficult to maneuver it was a beautiful drive that took me past the rows and rows of giant windmills (alternative energy, yeah we’re hip in Oklahoma!)

It also took me past many of the animals that make up the majority of the population in Oklahoma… yes, cows… and no I did not tip any!

Three hours later I arrived to meet Chris and Daniel Castor to talk all about “the Beard”, the sweet dance moves in the music video and how the “Beard Like Harden” sensation all came about!  Check out the interview here:

The video for their new original hit song, Came to Play,  is now on YouTube and the song is available for download on iTunes.

Looking forward to keeping in touch with these hometown celebrities to see what they come up with next!

#2 Do a Mud Run

What better place to run through mud than somewhere that naturally has a lot of it, Oklahoma! I found out about the race 2 days before and started scavenging for friends that were not drinking beers and eating hot dogs on the lake for Memorial Day weekend!  Luckily, my long time family friend I like to refer to as my “brother from another mother” and fierce athletic competitor was up for the challenge!

Saturday morning, Jeffrey, myself and my photographer (also known as my Dad!) took off for Ardmore, Oklahoma to complete the Fitness Freak 5K Mud Run.

Got our numbers and in the words of the Dixie Chicks “ready, ready, ready, ready , ready to run!”

Started off strong… then this happened!

and 19 obstacles later…

The climb up the finish line begins and continues…

Good news: when you get to the top, you get to slide down!

And for my favorite picture of the day…

Jeffrey takes a breather at the end while I take advantage of a photo-op and pose!

We received our medals and continued over to the photo wall!

Battle wounds happened, but that’s what a run like this is all about right??

Now it was time to hose down and clean up! Good thing I borrowed my Moms old shoes, do you think she’ll want them back??

I’m going to say probably not!

I would recommend the run to anyone that wants a good challenge!  I will forever lovingly refer to this particular race as the “5K on Crack”!!  If you think running up and over walls in shoes full of mud with dirty water dripping down your back is awesome then this is the race for you!

The “Fitness Freaks” put on the mud run twice a year in May and October, if you’d like to join in the fun, visit their Facebook page for all the details!

#54 Attend an NBA Playoff Game

What an exciting moment, the first check off the bucket list, and I couldn’t imagine a better one to start with!

As I flew back to my hometown of Edmond, Oklahoma on Sunday evening, my good friend and fellow crazed sports fan, Bradie, booked a plane ticket  for her first trip to the great state of Oklahoma to help me complete my first bucket list item!

She flew in Monday morning and the first item of business was well under way, get that girl some Thunder gear! Five shirts later, my Mom, myself and Bradie all had new Thunder gear for the game that night!

I ended up wearing four different Thunder shirts throughout the day! (Can you say wardrobe change much?!)

Following the Thunder shirt shopping spree Bradie and I headed straight for my favorite restaurant in OKC, Ted’s Cafe Escondido for the best frozen sangria I’ve ever had!

We then headed down to “Thunder Alley” which takes place before and during all Thunder games directly in front of the stadium. They have bounce houses and games for kids, plenty of photo ops and of course mingling with fellow Thunder fans!

After meeting up with some friends, getting our tickets and pre-gaming, it was time to Thunder Up, and they don’t call it “Loud City” for nothing!  The stadium was rocking all night!

I have to say that it is SO fun to be the fan of a team whose city is behind them 110%, you can barely go a block in OKC right now without seeing a Thunder flag, shirt, banner or painted building supporting the team!

Thunder pulled out a huge win over the Lakers to win the Round Two series 4:1 and advance to the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.

I am so excited that I actually get to check this bucket list item off TWICE because my good friend Garrick is taking me to Game 3 in OKC on Thursday night! Can’t wait to Thunder Up again in Loud City!

This also means I need another Thunder shirt… or 4 😉

I should probably call up my new friends at Fish Water Tees. The “Beat LA” shirt seen above was given to me after the game by the owner of the company who I met in the “Floor Seat Club”. If you want one for yourself, visit his site at www.FishWaterTees.com.
