Smoked Brisket Recipe + Tips and Tricks

Create mouth watering Smoked Brisket on a wood or pellet smoker with simple techniques & delicious marinade, rub and wet mop recipes! My family has tested and perfected this recipe over the last three decades.

It’s the perfect main course for your next BBQ and the leftovers make a delicious sandwich! Serve this tender, juicy smoked brisket with Buffalo Potato Salad and THE BEST Bacon Tomato Avocado Pasta Salad!

Sliced smoked brisket on wood serving platter

Growing up in Oklahoma, smoking meats was a regular occurrence at family get-togethers. My Grandpa owned an Oklahoma Joe’s smoker when I was growing up. He then passed it down to my Dad. When I started showing an interest in cooking, my Dad taught me how to smoke meats out on my Grandpa’s smoker.

For the past decade my Dad and I would smoke brisket, pulled pork and ribs whenever I would come home to visit in the summer. This last year I became the proud owner of my very own smoker, a Traeger pellet grill and smoker.

I spent the last year testing and perfecting my smoked brisket and pulled pork recipes. I’m still using the smoked brisket marinade, rub and wet mop recipes that my family has been using for years. But I have found a few techniques, tips and tricks to make my families smoked brisket recipe even better!

I was super intimidated when I first started smoking my own brisket. But now that I’ve got the recipe and method down, it’s so easy, I make it all the time!

Peach Basil Moscow Mule

For a refreshing variation on a classic Moscow Mule cocktail, try this Peach Basil Moscow Mule recipe! It combines peach vodka, fresh basil & lemon juice for a delicious drink!

Create a “Make Your Own Moscow Mule Bar” with this delicious recipe. And add these recipes for Grilled Pineapple Moscow Mules & Sparkling Grapefruit Gin Mules!

Moscow mule in copper mugs with fresh basil and lemon wedge on the side

One sip of this delicious cocktail and you’ll be hooked! The fresh flavors of peach and basil make this the perfect summer cocktail.

A classic Moscow Mule is made with just 3 ingredients, vodka, ginger beer and lime juice. For this recipe, I put my own spin on the classic! I swapped out traditional vodka for peach vodka, lime juice for lemon juice and added fresh basil leaves.

While today’s Moscow Mule is most commonly made with lime juice, the original Moscow Mule was actually created with lemon juice. So I guess you could say I’m just throwing it back old school in this peach basil variation of the drink!

Turkey burger on bun on wood cutting board topped with diced tomato bruschetta

If you’ve ever been to the blog before, you know how much I love topping recipes with Tomato Basil Bruschetta!

And once you try this Bruschetta Salmon recipe, you’ll never eat salmon any other way! Now for this turkey burger recipe topped with tomato basil bruschetta.

Bacon Tomato Avocado Pasta Salad

Crispy bacon, juicy tomatoes and creamy avocado dressing make THE BEST pasta salad recipe! This BLT Pasta Salad is quick and easy to prepare. It’s delicious served warm or cold and the perfect side dish for summer BBQ’s!

Serve it on the side of Grilled Tomato Basil Chicken Skewers, Buffalo Turkey Meatball Subs or Onion Fried Cheeseburgers! And don’t forget a glass of Grilled Strawberry Lemonade to go with it!

Pasta salad in bowl with bacon, tomatoes and parmesan cheese

I was never a big fan of potato or pasta salads growing up. Blasphemy, I know! I’m not a big fan of mayonnaise, which is the base for a lot of potato and pasta salad dressings.

I also found a lot of pasta salads to be boring. They were lacking in that delicious kick of flavor I was looking for!

But today, I’m here to introduce you to THE SECRET ingredient for making a creamy, flavorful pasta salad dressing without mayonnaise. Avocado! That’s right, the creamy avocado dressing in this salad packs a serious punch of flavor and the texture is deliciously creamy.

Bonus, it’s so much healthier than a mayonnaise based dressing! And you only 6 ingredients to make it, two of which are salt and pepper! Simply add all of the ingredients to a blender and boom, you’ve got one tasty pasta salad dressing!

I love replacing mayonnaise with avocado on a BLT sandwich. So I decided to make a BLT Pasta Salad with my homemade avocado dressing. Who can deny the combination of crispy bacon, creamy avocado and juicy tomatoes?! I know I sure can’t!

This recipe will be your new go-to summer and BBQ staple! My family loves this recipe. And every time I make it for a party or BBQ, it gets rave reviews from all my friends!

Strawberry Bruschetta

Strawberry Bruschetta is made with fresh basil, strawberries, balsamic vinegar & goat cheese. It’s an easy recipe, made in just 10 minutes, perfect for brunch, appetizers or dessert! It’s wonderful as a Summer snack or the start to a Valentine’s Day meal!

Strawberry bruschetta topped with balsamic glaze on white plate

To say I’m a huge fan of bruschetta would be a total understatement. Traditional bruschetta is an Italian appetizer that consists of grilled bread, rubbed with garlic and topped with olive oil and salt. Most commonly in America, it’s also topped with diced tomatoes.

This fresh Tomato Basil Bruschetta recipe has been a hit on the blog for years. It’s been so popular, that I’ve taken the topping and served it over chicken in these Bruschetta Chicken Zoodle Bowls. I’ve also added it to Baked Brie, Salmon and Chicken Parmesan.

I’ve also taken the base of bruschetta, grilled bread with toppings, and put my own spins on it. From Avocado Bruschetta, to Greek Bruschetta, to this delicious Strawberry Bruschetta. The bruschetta toppings really are endless!

This Strawberry Goat Cheese Bruschetta recipe is totally versatile and super easy to make. It can be served as part of brunch, an appetizer or dessert. It can easily be made for parties in just 10 minutes.

You can even make the strawberry mixture ahead of time. Place it in the refrigerator and simply toast the baguette and top it when guests begin to arrive!

Creamy goat cheese, fresh strawberries and balsamic vinegar are a winning combo! Serve it all on top of a crispy baguette and you’ve got yourself one delicious recipe!

Strawberry Daiquiri with Basil Simple Syrup

You’ll feel like you’re on vacation when you’re sipping on this Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri recipe! It’s easy to make at home & perfect for parties or poolside sipping! A delicious combination of basil simple syrup, strawberries, rum and lime juice create the perfect summer cocktail!

Frozen strawberry daiquiri in glass with lime wedge and strawberry on the side

Do you ever sit at home wishing you were on vacation on a tropical island? While I can’t instantly transport you to Jamaica (man I wish that was a thing!) I can give you this delicious strawberry daiquiri recipe to whip up! Just close your eyes, take a sip and you’ll instantly be transported into vaca-mode!

Growing up, it was a real treat when my parents would let me order a strawberry daiquiri at a restaurant. (A non alcoholic one, of course!) Now that I’m a grown up (sometimes, haha!) I get to enjoy the same delicious drink, with booze!

For this daiquiri recipe, I added my own little spin with basil simple syrup. Simple syrup is easy to make by boiling a combination of half water and half sugar together until the sugar dissolves.

I love to make flavored simple syrup’s to add to cocktails. It’s as easy as adding an herb, vegetable or fruit to the simple syrup while it’s boiling. Strain the simple syrup at the end, then add it to your favorite cocktail.

I’ve made grilled jalapeno simple syrup to go in a Watermelon Margarita, it’s sweet, spicy and so delicious! I’ve also made mint simple syrup to add to this Frozen Coconut Mojito. So refreshing in a cocktail with that minty, fresh flavor!

The basil simple syrup in this cocktail adds just a hint of basil to this sweet strawberry daiquiri. After you whip up the simple syrup, all you have to do is toss all of the ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth and the cocktail is ready for sipping!

Caprese Grilled Chicken Sandwich

Chicken breasts are tossed in a basil pesto marinade, then grilled to perfection and topped with grilled tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese in this easy, healthy & totally delicious grilled chicken sandwich recipe!

Pair it with a glass of Grilled Strawberry Lemonade and finish the meal with Grilled Berry S’Mores for a seriously scrumptious meal on the grill!

Grilled chicken sandwich with tomatoes and mozzarella cheese on white plate

Chicken is one of my favorite things to toss on the grill! From chicken skewers, like these popular Chipotle Lime Chicken Fajita Skewers, to meatballs, like these Caribbean Jerk Chicken Meatballs. There’s also the option of marinating chicken breasts and tossing them right on the grill, which is what I did in this recipe!

The marinade for this recipe is basil pesto. It’s easy to make my homemade version or just pick up a jar at the store. If you’re buying store-bought, I highly recommend looking in the refrigerator near the deli section of the grocery store.

You can usually find fresh, refrigerated pesto in this section that’s much better than the stuff in jars near the pasta sauce. Some grocery stores even make their own pesto fresh daily!

After tossing the chicken in the pesto, simply grill it up, then top it with grilled tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese. Place it on a bun with more pesto and fresh basil leaves and you’ve got a seriously delicious grilled chicken sandwich in just about 30 minutes!

Last night was “Taco Tuesday” so I decided to toss together healthy, grilled Chipotle Honey Glazed Salmon Tacos for the occasion! These tacos are sweet, spicy and oh-so-delicious.

I couldn’t top such an amazingly flavorful taco with just any old salsa, so I whipped up this fresh mango salsa!

Easy as that, you’ve got a healthy, scrumptious mango salsa ready to go! This salsa has only 57 calories per cup, making it the perfect choice for a flavorful side that you can feel good about digging in to!

In addition to the salmon tacos I originally served this mango salsa on top of, the salsa would also be great on Grilled Shrimp Tacos or Blackened Red Snapper.

You can also serve the salsa with a bag of chips and a Serrano Chili Mango Margarita or Blackberry Jalapeno Margarita for a delicious happy hour!
