Ingredients

thinly sliced – I use a mandolin to get ultra thin slices

cheddar cheese

hamburger buns
Instructions
Combine the ground beef, salt and pepper.
Form into four quarter-pound patties.
Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle to medium heat.
Place the burger patties on the grill for 3-4 minutes, smash the burgers down with a spatula and top with a handful of onions.
Smash the onions into the patties, cook for another 2-3 minutes, flip and cook 4-6 minutes.
Place a slice of cheese on each burger patty and allow to melt for 1-2 minutes.
Add the hamburger buns to the griddle and toast lightly.
Place each onion fried burger on a bun and serve.
