Notes
Chipotle sauce can be stored in the refrigerator, in an airtight container, for up to 10 days. It will thicken up as it sits in the fridge. Simply give it a stir to loosen it up before serving.
I do not recommend freezing any sauce that contains dairy. The sauce will separate in the freezer and will not be the same consistency once it’s defrosted.
This recipe is naturally gluten free.
To make a dairy-free and vegan version of this sauce, use this vegan chipotle sauce recipe that's made with a base of soaked cashews, instead of sour cream.
To increase the spice level of the sauce, add an additional chipotle pepper and 1 teaspoon adobo sauce from the can of peppers.
To add sweetness to this sauce, add 1 teaspoon honey. If you’d like it even sweeter, add an additional teaspoon of honey.
