How do you make the best brownies ever? Double up on the chocolate & add peanut butter chips! This recipe for Double Chocolate Brownies is made from scratch, but don't worry, it's SO EASY to make!
Preheat the oven to 325°F and coat a 9" x 13" baking dish with cooking spray.
Cream the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl with an electric hand mixer or stand mixer.
Add the eggs one at a time and combine after each addition.
Add the vanilla extract and combine.
In a small mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda.
Add to the butter sugar mixture and combine.
Stir the peanut butter chips into the batter with a spatula.
Spread the brownie batter into the baking dish and place in the oven for 45 minutes.
To prepare the brownie frosting while the brownies are baking, add the chocolate chips to a small saucepan on the stove over low-medium heat.
As the chocolate starts to melt, add the butter and stir to combine.
Add the milk, continue to whisk consistently until smooth and creamy.
Add the powdered sugar and whisk to combine.
Make sure to continue whisking the sauce so that the chocolate does not burn or stick to the bottom of the pan.
After whisking for 1-2 minutes, the chocolate frosting should be smooth and creamy, at that time remove it from the heat and let stand until the brownies come out of the oven.
Let the brownies cool for 15 minutes before topping with the chocolate frosting.
Allow the frosting to cool on top of the brownies for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Cooling time: for perfectly clean sliced brownies, allow the brownies to cool for 2 hours before slicing.
