A whole oven roasted turkey is sliced and served with cranberry jalapeno relish for a sweet and spicy kick to Thanksgiving!
It’s day two of “Thanksgiving Week” on WhitneyBond.com, and Turkey Tuesday!
Yesterday I shared a simple Slow Cooker Sweet Potato Stuffing recipe, and today I’m sharing an easy way to prepare a whole oven roasted turkey, with a delicious side of Cranberry Jalapeno Relish!
For a lot of my friends, Thanksgiving has turned into Friendsgiving, a time where you celebrate turkey day with friends if you can’t make it home for the holidays.
If you’re hosting Friendsgiving this year and in charge of the main course, the big kahuna, the whole turkey, don’t fret, my friends at Jennie-O have made cooking a whole turkey way easier and less intimidating with their Whole Oven Ready Turkey!
The Oven Ready Turkey goes straight from the freezer to the oven, no need to thaw, brine or season the turkey before popping it in the oven. The turkey comes seasoned in their fool-proof cooking bag so it’s ready to go when you are!
Whip up a side of delicious Cranberry Jalapeno Relish to give the juicy and flavorful turkey a sweet, tart and spicy kick!
Ingredients
- 1 (11-13 lb) Jennie-O Oven Ready Whole Turkey
- 2 jalapenos (minced)
- 12 oz fresh cranberries
- 1 cup sugar
- ⅓ cup water
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tsp lime zest
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Remove the frozen turkey from the outer package, but NOT from the cooking bag.
Place the turkey in a roasting pan with at least 2 inch sides.
Cut six ½ inch slits in the top of the cooking bag, and pull the bag away from the turkey.
Place the turkey in the oven with enough room above and on the sides for the bag to expand.
Roast the turkey until a thermometer reaches 165°F in the breast of the turkey, between 3 hours & 30 minutes – 4 hours. Begin checking the temperature after 3 hours as the temperature can rise quickly during the last hour of cooking.
Remove from the oven and set aside to rest for 15 minutes.
While the turkey is resting, prepare the Cranberry Jalapeno Relish.
Add all of the ingredients to a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
Once the cranberries begin to burst, turn the heat off and mash the cranberries.
The relish can be served immediately or placed in the refrigerator and served cold. Totally your preference!
Once the turkey has rested for 15 minutes, cut the top of the oven bag open. Remove the turkey from the bag and slice.
I served the breast meat for my Friendsgiving celebration with the Cranberry Jalapeno Relish, Sweet Potato Stuffing, Portobello Mushroom and Brussels Sprout Casserole, and Thanksgiving Sangria!
The Jennie-O Oven Ready Turkey takes all of the guess work and stress out of making an entire turkey, and the meat comes out perfectly seasoned, flavorful and juicy!
