Whether you call it puppy chow or muddy buddies, this easy dessert recipe is downright delicious! These Nutella Muddy Buddies are always a hit at parties.

This year at my annual holiday party, I decided to put a spin on my popular puppy chow recipe. I wanted it to be festive so I added red food coloring.

But not just any red food coloring. For this recipe to work you need red powdered food coloring. You can easily buy it on Amazon using the link above or pick it up at a baking supply store.

This Red Velvet Puppy Chow was a huge hit at my holiday party! The recipe is just as easy to make as traditional puppy chow. Simply toss the powdered food coloring with the powdered sugar and you’ll get this delicious and festive beautifully sweet snack!

Nutella Muddy Buddies

Nutella Muddy Buddies are the perfect gluten free sweet treat! They’re made with only 6 ingredients in 10 minutes, making this recipe so easy to toss together anytime for a party or snack!

Chocolate is melted over rice chex cereal with Nutella hazelnut spread, then tossed with powdered sugar for delicious, gluten free Nutella Buddies!

Now the real question is, did you call them muddy buddies or puppy chow as a kid?

I called them muddy buddies, but no matter what you called them, I know I’m not the only one who was totally obsessed with this delicious sweet snack as a kid!  It was always a favorite at school holiday parties, birthday parties and just a delicious dessert to have around the house!

As an adult I’ve become totally obsessed with Nutella recipes, from Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookie Cups and Nutella Rice Krispie Treats, to Nutella Cream Cheese Cinnamon Rolls and Nutella Brookies. I love the delicious hazelnut spread, so of course I had to add it to this classic recipe for muddy buddies!
