Table of contents
If you’re looking for the easiest way to make a super juicy cheeseburger, then this air fryer recipe is exactly what you’re looking for. It only takes 5 minutes to prep the burgers and 9 minutes to cook them, which means you have a tasty meal in under 15 minutes!
Hamburgers are a classic comfort food and using the air fryer to cook them is just a new way to make an old-school favorite at home. Add all of your favorite toppings, just like you would from a burger on the grill. These burgers are quick and easy to make, and guaranteed to be a hit with the whole family!
Ingredients
- Ground beef – I recommend a ground beef that’s 80/20, meaning 80% lean and 20% fat. This will give you the perfect amount of fat to make tender, juicy burgers!
- Hamburger seasoning – this easy blend of 5 spices, includes salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder and onion powder. It adds a great flavor to any burger recipe, and it’s easy to mix up in 5 minutes or less. Click the link for the recipe, mix up a big batch and store it in your pantry for anytime you want to make burgers!
- Worcestershire sauce – my secret ingredient for adding a wonderful umami flavor to burger patties. If you don’t have any Worcestershire sauce in the kitchen, you can use soy sauce instead.
- Cheddar cheese slices (optional) – or American cheese, pepper jack cheese, Swiss cheese, or really any sliced cheese you’d like to use to turn these air fryer hamburgers into cheeseburgers.
- Hamburger buns – I recommend brioche buns, as the buttery flavor is so delicious. But any burger bun will work.
Instructions
I’ve included step by step photos below to make this recipe super easy to follow at home. For the full detailed recipe instructions and ingredient quantities, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Form the burger patties. Combine ground beef, hamburger seasoning and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl. Divide the mixture into four burger patties, about ½ inch thick. Use your thumb to press a small indentation in the middle of each patty.
- Air fry the burgers. Place the burgers with the indentation facing up in an air fryer, with room around each burger patty for the air to flow and cook the burgers evenly. Cook at 370°F for 5 minutes. Open the air fryer, flip the burgers and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
- Add the cheese (optional). Open the air fryer and place a slice of cheese on each burger patty, air fry for 1 minute to melt the cheese on the burger patties.
Remove from the air fryer and serve the burgers on toasted buns, or serve them “protein style” without the bun.
Burger toppings
Add any, or all, of your favorite burger toppings to these air fryer cheeseburgers. Here are a few ideas to get you started, including some classic condiments and some serious flavor enhancers!
- Ketchup, mayo or mustard
- Burger sauce
- BBQ sauce
- Pickles or relish
- Lettuce and tomatoes
- Raw onions, pickled onions, or caramelized onions
- Sautéed mushrooms
- Smashed avocado or guacamole
- Bacon
Recipe notes
- Always use your thumb to indent the burgers in the middle before placing them in the air fryer. This way, the grease will pool in the indentation as the burgers cook, then when you flip the patties the grease will release through the grates in the air fryer and you won’t end up with a greasy burger!
- If using frozen hamburger patties, add 5 minutes to the total cooking time. You’ll want to cook the burgers for 7 minutes, flip and cook for an additional 6 minutes before adding the cheese.
- Using the cooking instructions in this recipe will cook the burgers to medium-well to well done. If you’d like a burger that’s medium, I recommend taking 2 minutes off of the total cook time. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium well, the burgers should reach 150-155°F, for well done, they should reach 160-165°F.
- Do not flatten the burgers with a spatula when you flip them in the air fryer. This will release all of the juicy flavor in the middle of the burger, creating a hamburger that’s less flavorful and juicy.
- This recipe was made in a 5.8 quart Cosori air fryer and fit four quarter-pound burgers perfectly. If your air fryer is smaller, you might have to cook the burgers in batches.
- This recipe is gluten free, when served without the bun, or on a gluten-free bun.
What to serve with the burgers
There are dozens of options when it comes to scrumptious side dishes to pair with these air fryer hamburgers. Fries are always a great choice, but potato salad, coleslaw, or baked beans are always delicious options as well! Try pairing these burgers with any of these side dish recipes.
- Animal Style Fries
- Air Fryer French Fries
- Air Fryer Tater Tots
- Crispy Smashed Potatoes
- Sweet Potato Fries
- Baked Sweet Potatoes (Oven or Air Fryer)
- Dad’s Famous Baked Beans
- Red White and Blue Cheese Potato Salad

If you’re making a side dish in the air fryer, like fries or tots, prepare them first. After you remove the burgers from the air fryer, toss the fries or tots back in the air fryer and reheat at 400°F for 2 minutes to serve with the burgers.
Storage tips
Store leftover cooked burger patties in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Reheat them in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes, with a few drops of water on top of each patty, to prevent them from drying out.
