When it comes to hosting holiday parties, this dip will be the star of the show! It’s sweet, creamy, warm apple pie goodness in the form of a dip, what’s not to love?
I used my homemade apple pie filling recipe that’s easy to make in 15 minutes, but you can also make this recipe with a can of apple pie filling from the grocery store. Feel free to prep the dip ahead of time, then bake it right before serving.
It’s simple, scrumptious, and tastes like a combination of a cheesecake and apple pie, therefore making it the best dessert dip ever!
Ingredients
- Cream cheese – you’ll start the base of the dip with two blocks of cream cheese. They’ll need to be softened before starting the recipe. I recommend transferring them to a mixing bowl, or the bowl of a stand mixer (out of the packaging) at least 30 minutes before starting the recipe so they can soften.
- Salted butter – half of the butter will be mixed with the cream cheese to make the base of the dip and the other half will be used to make the crumble to top the dip. The butter mixed with the cream cheese should be at room temperature when you start this recipe. The other half of the butter should be kept in the fridge until you’re ready to make the crumble.
- Powdered sugar – to sweeten up the cream cheese base of the dip.
- Vanilla extract – this little bottle of liquid goodness adds a wonderful depth of flavor to the cream cheese layer of the dip and makes the sugar taste more caramel-sweet.
- Apple pie filling – I recommend using my homemade apple pie filling, linked here. It’s easy to make in 15 minutes with granny smith apples and you can make it ahead of time and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to make the dip. I prefer to use diced apples for this dip, instead of slicing them. It makes them easier to scoop out of the dip with a variety of different dippers. If you’d prefer a shortcut, you can use a can of apple pie filling from the grocery store.
- All-purpose flour – the base of the crumble to top the dip. If you’d like to make this recipe gluten free, you can use a 1-to-1 gluten-free flour substitute.
- Ground cinnamon – to add flavor to the crumble.
- Sugar – to sweeten the crumble.
- Salted caramel sauce – this ingredient is an optional topping to make this a caramel apple pie dip. It’s delicious, but not necessary to make an epic apple pie dip!
Instructions
I’ve included step by step photos below to make this recipe super easy to follow at home. For the full detailed recipe instructions and ingredient quantities, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Prepare the cream cheese base. Add softened cream cheese and butter to a large mixing bowl, or the base of a stand mixer. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, then use an electric mixer or stand mixer to beat the ingredients together on medium speed for 2-3 minutes, or until smooth and creamy. Spread this mixture in a greased 9 inch x 13 inch baking dish, or 3 quart casserole dish.
- Add the apple pie filling. Pour the apple pie filling into the baking dish on top of the cream cheese layer.
- Prepare the crumble. Add flour, cinnamon, sugar, and cold, cubed butter to a mixing bowl. Use your hands, or a fork, to make a crumble. Crumble this mixture evenly over the apple pie filling in the baking dish.
- Bake the dip. Place the dip in a preheated 350°F oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the crumble turns golden brown. Remove from the oven and optionally drizzle with salted caramel sauce before serving.
What to serve with it
This easy dessert dip is delicious served with sweet or salty dippers, or even fresh fruit! Try dipping into this delicious apple pie dip with any of these options.
- Graham crackers
- Vanilla wafers
- Pretzel crisps
- Shortbread cookies
- Gingersnaps
- Sliced apples
My personal favorite are the pretzel crisps, but I love the combination of sweet and salty!
You can also make cinnamon sugar pita chips. I made these to serve with my pumpkin hummus and they’re both easy and delicious! To make the cinnamon sugar chips, follow the instructions below.
- Slice 4 round pieces of pita bread into 8 triangles each, for a total of 32 pita triangle “chips”.
- In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
- Toss the pita chips with 2 tablespoons melted butter and the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Spread the pita chips out evenly on a baking sheet.
- Place in a 350°F preheated oven for 6-8 minutes.
Storage and reheating
Store apple pie dip leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 6 days.
You can reheat the dip in the serving dish, covered, in the oven at 350°F for 15 minutes. You can also reheat individual portions of the dip in a small bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes. This is perfect if you want to make yourself a little sweet treat for an afternoon snack or dessert!
I do recommend serving this dip warm, as that’s when it’s best (in my opinion), but that’s not to say that you can’t dip a cookie into the cold dip in the fridge. This is still delicious, I can say from personal experience!
