Homemade seasoning mixes have become my secret ingredient for making the most flavorful recipes! With over 30 homemade seasoning recipes on the blog, it’s easy to mix up a bunch of these homemade spice blends and store them in the pantry to make easy recipes even more flavorful!
This hamburger seasoning recipe is the latest addition to my pantry, and I love it so much! A combination of this seasoning mix, Worcestershire sauce and ground beef is the base for making juicy, flavorful homemade burgers.
This homemade burger seasoning recipe will stay good in the pantry for up to 6 months. So feel free to double or triple the recipe and mix up a big batch of this seasoning blend. Use it to season grilled burgers in the summer and fall, and air fryer hamburgers in the winter.
Ingredients
For the full ingredient amounts, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Sea salt (or kosher salt) – both sea salt and kosher salt can be used interchangeably when cooking. I prefer either kosher or sea salt, over table salt, in this seasoning mix because of their coarse texture and superior flavor.
- Black pepper – I recommend a coarse-ground pepper for this recipe, as it adds great texture to the spice blend.
- Paprika – while I use traditional paprika to make this burger seasoning, if you’d like to add a little smokiness to the flavor, feel free to use smoked paprika instead. Or to add a slight sweetness to the mix, use sweet paprika.
- Garlic powder (or granulated garlic) – the only difference between granulated garlic and garlic powder is that the powder has been ground finer, than the granulated garlic. I prefer to use granulated garlic because it’s less likely to clump over time, than garlic powder.
- Onion powder (or granulated onion) – the only difference between granulated onion and onion powder is that the powder has been ground finer, than the granulated onion. I prefer to use granulated onion because it’s less likely to clump over time, than onion powder.
- Cayenne pepper (optional) – if you want to add just a hint of heat to the spice mix, add just ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper. You could also use red pepper flakes in place of the cayenne pepper to add a hint of spice to the mix.
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
- Store in an airtight container in the pantry for up to 6 months.
Easy as that, in 5 minutes or less, you have a flavorful hamburger seasoning, ready to spice up all your favorite burger recipes!
Recipe tips
- This recipe makes 8 tablespoons of homemade hamburger seasoning. If you’d like to make a double batch of the seasoning, simply click on the 2X button in the recipe card below. The ingredient amounts in the recipe card will automatically update for the new serving size.
- I recommend using 1 tablespoon of burger seasoning per pound of ground meat. Refer to my basic burger recipe below for an example. You can use ground turkey to make turkey burgers, ground beef to make traditional burgers, or meatless crumbles to make veggie burgers. They’ll all taste amazing with this burger seasoning mix.
- The burger seasoning will stay good, stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place like the pantry, for up to 6 months. After that the spice blend will not “go bad” but as spices sit longer, they begin to lose their flavor.
- I recommend storing the seasoning mix in an 8 ounce mason jar or large spice jar. If doubling the recipe, use a pint size or 16 ounce mason jar. I recommend labeling the hamburger seasoning with a date and using the seasoning mix within 6 months.
- This recipe is gluten free, and contains no added sugar, making it perfect for a whole30 or keto diet.
How to make the best burgers
Follow my basic burger recipe below to make the most flavorful, juicy burgers every time!
Combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 tablespoon hamburger seasoning and 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce. Divide the mixture in half to make really large half-pound burgers. Or divide the mixture into 4 equal patties to make quarter-pound burgers.
Grill, air fry or pan fry each burger patty to your desired temperature, around 4-6 minutes per side. Top with cheese, if you’d like, and place the burgers on buns with the toppings of your choice. I love lettuce, tomatoes, burger sauce and caramelized onions.
You can also use this basic burger recipe to make air fryer hamburgers, smash burgers or cheeseburger sliders. Or use the seasoning to make California Burgers, Patty Melts, Smoked Burgers, or BBQ Bacon Burgers.
What to serve with burgers
Burgers and fries are a perfect pair, but really there are a ton of side dishes that are delicious with burgers! Try any of these scrumptious sides to pair with the best basic burgers.
