Ingredients
- Mayonnaise – feel free to use traditional mayo or an olive oil based mayonnaise. I’ve used both and they both work great for the base of this recipe.
- Ketchup
- Pickles (or dill pickle relish) – I’ve made this recipe with both finely diced dill pickles and dill pickle relish. Both ingredients will work, but I prefer to use the finely diced pickles. They add a nice texture to the sauce, without the other added ingredients that come in a bottle of relish.
- Dijon mustard – you can also use yellow mustard, but I like the sharp tang that dijon adds to the sauce.
Instructions
- Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and stir to combine.
Easy as that, you have your own classic burger sauce, perfect for adding flavor to all of your favorite burger recipes!
Once you’ve made the sauce, taste it and if you feel like it needs added salt, mix in ¼ teaspoon salt. I found that the pickles were salty enough, I didn’t add any salt to the recipe.
Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Recipe tips
- If you don’t want to use mayo, you can substitute in Greek yogurt. The texture and flavor will just be slightly different.
- To spice it up, feel free to add in 1 teaspoon of hot sauce.
- Make it extra tangy by mixing in a little extra pickle juice. Just make sure not to add too much, or the sauce will be too thin.
- Allow the secret sauce to rest for the flavors to meld. You can eat it right away, but letting it chill in the fridge for at least an hour makes it even better!
- To make a copycat big mac sauce, add 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon paprika to this recipe.
- I recommend putting 2 tablespoons of this sauce on a burger. This recipe makes 12 tablespoons, so it’s enough to make 6 burgers. If you want to double the recipe, simply click the 2X button in the recipe card below. The ingredient amounts will automatically update to make double the sauce.
