When it comes to this Korean BBQ Sauce, I literally can NOT get enough! It started on Slow Cooked Meatballs for Superbowl, then went to Slow Cooked Chicken for Tacos (OMG, seriously, a MUST MAKE!) Now, I decided that it was time to take my new favorite sauce to the grill!
I partnered up with my friends at World Market to make this delicious new recipe on their adorable new Mini BBQ Grill!
It’s the perfect size for my balcony and a great way to get that delicious smoky, charcoal flavor without taking the time to heat a large charcoal grill!
I also love the deep orange color, that matches perfectly with my newly redecorated balcony!
Now let’s get grilling!
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup mirin
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 1 ½ tbsp chili paste
- ½ tbsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
- ½ tbsp fresh ginger (grated)
- 3 cloves garlic (crushed)
- 1 green onion (finely chopped)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 lb salmon
In a large saucepan combine the first 11 ingredients of the BBQ sauce and bring to a boil, cook 5-7 minutes.
In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch and water. Add this mixture to the boiling sauce. Whisk to combine well, reduce heat to medium and cook 3-4 minutes. Turn the heat off and set the sauce aside to cool.
Light the grill and bring to a medium-high heat.
World Market quick tip from Cooking Classy: Just as you preheat the oven or skillet, always remember to preheat the grill about fifteen minutes before cooking, to ensure a nice sear and to keep whatever type of meat you are grilling moist.
Place the salmon in a foil basket and pour half of the Korean BBQ sauce over the salmon. Reserve the other half of the sauce for later.
Place the salmon on the grill.
Grill for 20-30 minutes.
Remove from the grill and top with the remaining BBQ sauce. You can also add a sprinkling of sesame seeds if you’d like!
I decided to keep this dish on the light and Summery side by serving it over a bed of chopped romaine lettuce, but it would also be delicious served over rice!
