After 4 ½ years of blogging and over 700 recipes, Gluten Free Orange Chicken is still my brothers favorite recipe on the blog! I can’t blame him though, that orange sauce is to die for, which is why I decided that in 2016 I need to find new recipes to incorporate the sauce into!
The first new recipe I decided to try with the sauce is, you guessed it, Orange Glazed Meatballs!
This recipe is awesome, because it can be served as an appetizer with toothpick skewers, maybe during an upcoming football game (hint, hint, Superbowl party app!) or over rice for dinner anytime!
The boyfriend and I ate about half of the meatballs for dinner one night, then he proceeded to eat all of the leftover meatballs the next day for lunch, needless to say, I think he was a fan! 😉
The best part about these meatballs, besides how delicious they are, is how easy they are to make! In under 30 minutes you’ve got scrumptious Chinese Orange Glazed Meatballs ready for dinner or as an app for a party!
- ¼ cup fresh squeezed orange juice
- 2 tbsp white wine vinegar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sriracha
- 2 cloves garlic (crushed)
- 1 tsp orange zest
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- 2 tbsp + ¼ cup brown sugar (divided)
- 2 lbs pork sausage (spicy, mild or a combination of the two)
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 1 egg (whisked)
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp fresh green onions (chopped – garnish)
- 1 tsp sesame seeds (garnish)
Turn the oven broiler on to low.
Combine the orange juice, white wine vinegar, soy sauce, sriracha, garlic, orange zest, ginger and ¼ cup brown sugar in a mixing bowl.
In a separate mixing bowl, combine the sausage, cornstarch, whisked egg, and remaining 2 tbsp brown sugar.
Roll the sausage mixture into approximately 24 golf ball sized meatballs.
Heat two large oven-safe skillets over medium high heat (unless you have one really jumbo sized skillet that will fit all 24 meatballs). Divide the olive oil between the two skillets.
Add half of the sausage meatballs to each skillet and sear the meatballs on all sides.
Pour half of the orange sauce into each skillet over the meatballs, reduce heat to low and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Place the skillets in the oven for 3-4 minutes. Remove from the oven, flip the meatballs and place back in the oven for 3-4 minutes.
Serve the meatballs topped with green onions and sesame seeds.
Serve over rice for dinner or with toothpicks for an appetizer.
Sweet, tangy and a little spicy, the perfect combination of flavors!
