Dad’s Famous BBQ Baked Beans

Friends and family have been raving about my Dad’s famous homemade baked beans for decades! Now I’m sharing the simple recipe featuring bacon, brown sugar & his secret ingredient!

These Southern BBQ Baked Beans are easy to make in the oven, in a crock pot or on a smoker. They’re the perfect side dish to go with Oklahoma Onion Fried Burgers or Melt-In-Your-Mouth Smoked Brisket!

Baked beans in white bowl with black and silver spoon lifting beans out of the bowl

If you’ve ever been to a BBQ at my parents house in Oklahoma or my house in San Diego, there’s a 99.9% chance you’ve tried my Dad’s Famous Baked Beans. After dozens of requests for the recipe, I decided it was time I finally shared his recipe on the blog!

It’s simple. Nothing fancy here. Just good ol’ southern bbq baked beans!

His secret ingredient? Ground mustard! When cooked in the sauce of the baked beans it adds a delicious flavor to the dish.

This no-fuss recipe can be baked in the oven, cooked in a slow cooker or smoked on a smoker. Whatever is easiest for you, do that! If I’m making the beans to pair with a dinner like my Dad’s Famous Captain Crunch Fried Chicken, I cook them in the oven.

When I’m hosting a party or BBQ, I toss them in the crock pot so that people can eat them throughout the party. If I’m outside smoking meats, I cook them in a cast iron dutch oven right on the smoker next to my meat.

This recipe serves 4-6 people but is easy to double or triple for a bigger group. I highly recommend making more than you think you’ll need, because I’m telling you right now, people go crazy for these baked beans!

I’ve made so many brunch recipes over the years that it’s impossible to pick a favorite. This Meatloaf Hash definitely ranks up there though!

When it comes to sweet brunch dishes, I can never get enough Strawberry Pancakes with Cream Cheese Syrup or Salted Caramel Cinnamon Rolls.

When hosting a brunch at my house, I always like to serve at least one egg dish, a potato dish and something sweet.

I first made this Crockpot Breakfast Casserole recipe for Father’s Day 2014. I was hosting a brunch for friends and family and wanted to make recipes that could easily feed a crowd!

Since that brunch, I’ve made this breakfast casserole dozens of times. It’s not only great for a crowd at brunch, this easy breakfast casserole is perfect for meal prepping throughout the week.

Toss this casserole in the crockpot on Sunday, then reheat it for breakfast throughout the week. It’s great on it’s own or rolled up in a tortilla for a breakfast burrito.

You can also eat it as breakfast for dinner. No matter the time of day, I’m always down for breakfast foods!

Slow Cooker Black Pepper Beef and Broccoli

The best black pepper beef and broccoli recipe is made in a crockpot with a delicious Chinese black pepper sauce, then tossed with noodles for a simple slow cooker meal that only takes 10 minutes of prep time!

Black Pepper Beef and Broccoli with rice noodles and scallions on plate with chopsticks

It’s hard to pick the best dish at Tasty Noodle House, our favorite Chinese restaurant in San Diego, but their Black Pepper Beef & Noodles is definitely in the top 3!

While I’ve already recreated some of our favorite Chinese chicken dishes, like Orange Chicken, Honey Chicken and Chinese Lettuce Wraps, it was about time I recreated our favorite Chinese beef dish!

I decided to slow cook the beef in the Chinese black pepper sauce, so that the beef would be extremely tender, with a deep, rich flavor. There’s also no need to marinate the meat, as it cooks in the sauce for hours, so it soaks in all of the sauce!

The great thing is, you can set it and forget it, then toss the noodles and broccoli in at the end.

The sauce will cook the noodles right in the crock pot and the broccoli will be steamed in the slow cooker, so there’s no need for extra pots or pans!

Crock Pot Dessert Fruit Taco Cups

Alright y’all, it’s time for a moment of honesty here, I’m totally obsessed with slow cookers!

Yes, it’s true, I am now the proud owner of SIX slow cookers!

I literally own a slow cooker from the 80’s, a slow cooker from the 90’s and now four slow cookers from this decade! And no, I’m not giving any of them up, no matter how many times Kurt tells me it’s ridiculous to have so many slow cookers! 😉

For every party I throw, I cook up at least one, usually three or four recipes in my slow cooker. Slow cooking for parties allows me to prep everything the night before, then let the slow cooker do all of the work while I enjoy the party!

My Superbowl party is the perfect example of this. Each year, I prep 4-5 slow cookers the night before with different meats. Chipotle Honey Pulled Pork, Smoked Chipotle Brisket and Beef Barbacoa are always on the menu! I slow cook them overnight, then set up a taco bar for the party. This means people can eat whenever they would like and I get to watch the game!

This week I decided to put together the perfect summer crock pot fiesta, featuring an appetizer, entree and dessert, all made in crock pots!
