In a food bloggers life, as soon as one holiday hits, it’s time to start preparing recipes for the next! After Halloween, immediately comes Thanksgiving, after Thanksgiving, immediately comes Christmas, and so on and so forth!
Before the leftover Thanksgiving turkey was even out of the fridge, I began brainstorming ideas for Christmas turkey recipes.
I went to my Facebook friends with a few ideas, and I had an overwhelming response for this Orange Bourbon Turkey Breast!
And I really can’t blame them. This recipe turned out as good as it sounds!
And the best part about this recipe is its simplicity. I cooked this turkey breast in a crock pot, so it can be the first thing you put on in the morning and it’s ready for Christmas dinner whenever you are!
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp ground cloves
- 3-4 lb turkey breast (skin on or off – up to you!)
- ½ cup bourbon
- ½ cup fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- ½ cup honey
Combine the paprika, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, cumin and ground cloves in a small bowl.
Rub the spice mixture on the turkey breast and place in the crock pot.
In another small bowl, whisk the bourbon, orange juice, orange zest and honey together.
Pour this mixture over the turkey and slow cook on low 6-8 hours.
Remove the turkey from the crock pot and brush the orange bourbon glaze from the crock pot on to the turkey breast.
Serve along side fresh orange slices and parsley for a beautiful Christmas dinner plate!
Slice it up and you have the perfect Christmas turkey for 4-6 people!
