Ingredients
- Ground beef – you can also use ground turkey if you prefer.
- Taco seasoning – I always recommend my homemade seasoning mix, because it’s so much better than the pre-made stuff and it’s easy to mix up in just 5 minutes! Click the link above to grab the recipe. Of course, you can always purchase a store bought seasoning packet, if you’d prefer.
- Crescent roll dough – for this recipe, you’ll need two 8 count cans of refrigerated crescent roll dough.
- Cheddar cheese – I always recommend grating your own cheese at home as it melts better and tastes better!
Instructions
- Cook the ground beef. Add one pound of ground beef to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the ground beef until it’s browned, around 5-7 minutes. Drain any grease from the skillet. Add the taco seasoning and 1/4 water to the skillet and stir to combine all of the ingredients. Cook for 2-3 minutes, then remove the skillet from the stove.
- Fill the crescent rolls. Roll out the crescent rolls on a piece of parchment paper. Add a spoonful of the taco seasoned beef mixture about an inch from the top of each crescent roll dough triangle. Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the ground beef.
- Roll up the crescent rolls. Starting at the top of the crescent roll dough, roll the dough over the beef and cheese, and continue rolling up tightly. Fold any excess dough on the side over the top of the crescent roll. Transfer the taco crescent rolls to a baking sheet.
- Bake the crescent rolls. Place in a preheated 375°F oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cresent rolls are golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
Serving options
Feel free to top these taco croissants just like you would your favorite taco! You can keep it simple and serve them with a dollop of sour cream, or salsa on the side. Or you can get crazy and add all of the toppings to create a taco crescent roll feast! Here are a few serving ideas to get you started.
- Sour cream
- Salsa
- Guacamole
- Diced avocado
- Creamy avocado salsa
- Chopped fresh cilantro
- Diced green onions
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced tomatoes
- Pico de gallo
- Hot sauce
- Creamy chipotle sauce
Frequently asked questions
- Can you make them ahead of time? You can cook the taco seasoned ground beef ahead of time, but I recommend assembling and baking them right before serving for the best texture.
- Can you add cream cheese to the taco rolls? You sure can! Feel free to add 1/2 tablespoon cream cheese to each crescent roll before adding the ground beef and cheddar cheese. This will make for an extra creamy, cheesy taco crescent roll!
- Can you add other ingredients inside the crescent rolls? Yes, just make sure not to overstuff the crescent rolls. Sometimes I like to saute a little onion, bell pepper and jalapeno in with the ground beef. I’ve also mixed in a 4 ounce can of diced green chilies with the ground beef and that’s delicious too!
- Can you make the recipe vegetarian? Absolutely! Simply swap the ground beef for meatless crumbles, like Impossible meat, or swap in your favorite brand of soy chorizo.
How to store and reheat
Leftover taco crescent rolls will stay good stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
To reheat the crescent rolls, I recommend using the oven or an air fryer.
To reheat them in the oven, place the taco crescent rolls on a baking sheet. Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of the oven with the broiler turned on to high. Cook for 3-5 minutes, but be sure to keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t burn under the broiler. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
To reheat them in an air fryer, place the taco croissants in an air fryer basket, with enough room around them for the air to circulate. Reheat at 400°F for 4-6 minutes.
