It’s a versatile seasoning that adds wonderful flavor and texture to everything you add it to! The seven herbs and spices found in this Italian spice blend combine for a symphony of flavors. This seasoning blend can be used in marinades for meats, like chicken, pork or steak, or it can be added to sauces, soups and so much more!

The possibilities really are endless when it comes to ways that you can use this Italian seasoning blend! The best part is, it only takes 5 minutes to whip up this recipe. You can easily double it and store it in the pantry for up to 6 months. This way, you’ll have flavorful Italian seasoning ready to go whenever you want to transport your taste buds to Italy!

Ingredients

Here I explain what’s in this homemade Italian seasoning recipe and what each herb or spice adds to the mix. For the exact ingredient measurements, see the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Dried basil – this herb is an aromatic, found in almost every Italian recipe. It’s mostly sweet, with a touch of savory and notes of pepper.
  • Dried oregano – one of the most versatile Italian herbs, you’ll always find pizza and pasta sauces seasoned with oregano. It’s essential in a delicious Italian herb blend.
  • Dried thyme – the lemony notes of thyme add a bright, fresh flavor to the seasoning mix. And it’s one of the main herbs found in Italian cooking.
  • Dried minced garlic – instead of using garlic powder, I like to use dried minced garlic in this Italian seasoning to add a nice texture to the mix.
  • Dried minced onions – just like the garlic, I prefer minced onions, over onion powder, for the tasty texture and flavor they add to the mix.
  • Dried rosemary – this robust, woodsy herb is a nice complement to the other herbs in this seasoning mix. It adds a delicious peppery flavor that pairs perfectly with the garlic and thyme.
  • Red pepper flakes – a hint of spice is a nice addition to this Italian seasoning. If you prefer no spice, you can omit this ingredient.

Instructions

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
  2. Store in an airtight container in the pantry for up to 6 months.

How to make Italian seasoned breadcrumbs

To make Italian seasoned breadcrumbs, add 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning to 1 cup of breadcrumbs.

Italian seasoned breadcrumbs are great for using in recipes like chicken or eggplant parmesan, meatballs, or meatloaf.

How to make Italian dressing

In a small bowl combine 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar, 1 teaspoon dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon honey, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Slowly drizzle in 1/2 cup vegetable oil (or olive oil) while whisking the oil in with the other ingredients.

Serve tossed with fresh chopped greens to make a delicious Italian salad.

Other ways to use it
